Speciality & Fine Food Fair 2012 preview

Calling all London foodies! If you’re feeling hungry or thirsty this Sunday, pop down to Kensington and visit the quintessential trade show for fine food and drink…

Speciality & Fine Food Fair 2012 (www.specialityandfinefoodfairs.co.uk) takes place at the Olympia Exhibition Centre Grand Hall in London from 2nd to 4th September and will showcase quality food and drink from local and regional suppliers. Worldwide buyers from delis, farm shops, independent retailers, cafes, coffee shops, restaurants, hotels, caterers and wholesalers will be looking for new and exciting products from over 600 exhibitors at the show.

Despite the slow UK economy, last year’s Fair attracted over 8,300 visitors, the highest number in its 12 year history – testament to the growing popularity of fine food and drink. 2012 will also see the return of the popular Speciality Chocolate Fair, which runs alongside the main exhibition. This is the UK’s only trade event dedicated to fine and artisan chocolate, providing a unique way to present new luxury and gourmet chocolate to top industry people – including pastry chefs and choccie buyers from the likes of Harrods, Selfridges and Fortnum & Mason.

Grubs Up

Solopress.com’s own top five picks of the yummies due to be exhibited at the Speciality & Fine Food Fair 2012 are:

1. Chilli Honey by Hilltop Honey (www.hilltop-honey.com)
Infused with chilli flakes, this unusual honey is great for cooking with – or using as a sweet chilli dip/sauce. “A big selling point of ours is that all our honey is British,” says Scott Davies, owner of Hilltop Honey. “People care about British producers more and more now, as they are aware of how much support we need, so they’re consciously buying British products.”

2. Cranberry Crush by Luscombe Drinks, Devon (www.luscombe.co.uk)
A gently sparkling cranberry drink combining the crisp sharpness of organic cranberries with a hint of Damascan rose water and Madagascan vanilla. Luscombe says this complex soft drink matches the sweetness of seafood, in particular, grilled scallops. The company’s extensive drinks range also includes Elderflower Bubbly, Hot Ginger Beer, Lime Crush and Sicilian Lemonade. Now you weren’t expecting this from a family-owned Devon farm, were you.
