  1. Karl Foxley says:

I wanted to be a fireman when I was a child and I’m happy with the knowledge that there is still time for me to apply. The most likely route will be as a reserve that helps out when needed so, at the very least, I still get to realize my childhood dream and it fits around my current path(s) that I have chosen.

    • Solopress says:

Good luck pursuing your ideal career, Karl.

  2. Shelley Jessup says:

I had many dreams as a child, the one I tried to pursue was to run my own business. I enjoy crafts so I tried to run a successful jewellery business with aims of running jewellery classes for keen jewellers. I managed to run a small business for over a year but I became unwell & have had to stop working for myself however I plan on aiming higher when my health improves.

    • Solopress says:

Best wishes for your recovery, Shelley – and new plans for the future.

  3. Lucy Pasifull says:

I always wanted to be an explorer when I was growing up, I had wonderful images of me battling through the jungle, climbing mountains and planting flags at the poles. Maybe it is time to start making those dreams a reality.

    • Solopress says:

We’d recommend watching a few Bear Grylls and Ray Mears TV shows for some handy survival hints before you start out exploring, Lucy!

  4. Alex says:

I always wanted to do quality control for a candy shop. I thought it was a neish in the market as a kid.. They must have someone there to test all the sweets before they decide which ones are good enough to go to store!!

  5. Ellen Stafford says:

First I wanted to be a nurse when I was about 5, then when I got to about 8 or 9 I wanted to be a school teacher, I used to try and “teach” all the younger kids in our area, so bossy hehe. :-)

  6. lucinda says:

I wanted to be an Olympic athlete when I was a kid!….my dream nearly came true when I was selected to attend the British Cycling Olympic Cycling Academy back in 2008. Unfortunately I was diagnosed with a tumour in my spine so I had to have back operations and give up my chance. Bad timing! Loving the Olympics. Go Team GB!

    • Solopress says:

Hope you’re OK now, Lucinda. Great to hear you still love to watch cycling.

  7. Lloyd Treadwell says:

I wanted to be a footballer but I’ve got two left feet, making do with having a dull career intax but I still have a run out every now and again.

    • Solopress says:

Two left feet eh? And you DIDN’T play for the England team? Now there’s a surprise. ;-)

  8. yasmine choudhry says:

    nurse

  9. Nick Griffiths says:

When I was a kid I wanted to be a dolphin trainer! However I ended up being a photographer so not bad!

  10. Vera Fisher says:

I wanted to be a dancer. I did it! I teach dance now.
    My dream came true.

  11. Danielle :) says:

When I was a kid I really wanted to be a Veterinarian when I grew up, simply because this was the only job that I knew of where I could work with animals, I even had the little Animal Hospital toys with Rolf Harris. I could of never made it in this career though as I have a HUGE phobia of blood, it would of never worked out!

Now I’m at university studying Graphic Design, which is where I found out about the lovely Solopress! :) xx

    • Solopress says:

Awwww, Animal Hospital toys. That’s so cute. How are the Graphic Design studies going then, Danielle?

  12. kayleigh Dawn says:

I wanted to be a vet, sadly left school too early because i was severely bullied.

    • Solopress says:

That’s a real shame Kayleigh. Why not try online studies or local courses to build up your knowledge and skills? Or are you happy doing what you’re doing now?

  13. Nathan Russ says:

When i was a kid i wanted to be either an archaeologist or paleontologist

    • Solopress says:

Indiana Jones or Jurassic Park. Tough call.

  14. Nicola Brookes says:

When I was 10 I wanted to be an inventor, or maybe a computer games tester. In my 20s I wanted to be a paradise island caretaker. And now, at 30, I’m happy enough in my PR role. At least I have nice business cards!

    • Solopress says:

Do you PR for a games firm or paradise island, Nicola?

  15. alison reid says:

i wanted to be a palaeontologist, til my dad told me i would be dirty and dusty all the time and that they wouldnt let me wear my fairy princess costume on digs!! meanies

  16. Hazel says:

I wanted to be either a midwife or an astronaut! I didn’t end up as either but really enjoyed the research job I ended up in.

  17. Bev says:

I was a bizarre child – I wanted to be a vet or a copywriter – clearly the two professions were related in my 8 year old mind! I never became a vet (although I do rescue guinea pigs) and I’m working on freelance copywriting! So I suppose I did get sort of what I wanted.

  18. Lewis Hill says:

When I was a kid I wanted to be a super hero. I was in the same class as Peter Parker in school and even went on that science trip that made him so ‘special’. Unfortunately my Mum called me around the time he got bitten by a radioactive spider, so I was out in the hallway scrambling for signal. I just want you to know that it could have been my story. It could have been me.

Ever since I’ve been visiting zoo’s accross the land, handling scorpions and petting hippos in the hope that one of them, just one, will make me semi awesome.

P.S I dropped a box of slightly irradiated squirrels in Southend, they didn’t have enough juice in them to grant super powers if bitten, but they do make you go a little nuts.

    • Solopress says:

Thanks Lewis. Just remember Uncle Ben’s wise words: with great pistachio, comes great responsibility!

  19. Carla K says:

I think i changed my mind several times over the years, from chocolate tester, to hot air balloon pilot but on a normal level, a journalist would of been the perfect job for me but sadly my cousin beat me to it. Now i am trying to gain a degree in Psychology and so far i am finding it interesting and fun (well…apart from all the essay writing!). When i do get my degree i am hoping to apply for a job in aviation psychology.

  20. James says:

Like many kids I was obsessed with lego, this gave me a great interest in wanting to become an architect.
